A look at HTML5 in action

October 22, 2010

More than 50 years ago, the criminal justice system was both the same and very different. The Burton Abbott case is one of the best examples of this contrast – or lack thereof.

Executing Abbott: 50 years later is nice example of HTML5 design and what kind of interactive experience that can be created with it. It’s just one part of a larger project called Behind Bars, a report on incarceration in California. Arcade Fire’s amazing interactive HTML5 music video

“We Used to Wait”

Arcade Fire

I had a lot of fun putting in different addresses and watching this amazing interactive HTML5/music video/Google maps mash-up for the indie band Arcade Fire. There is so much going on I had to watch it a few times. Windows pop open and shut, maps spin, photos of streets that you may know appear.

You have to use a HTML5 compliant browser, and be warned the film is processor intensive. You’ll want to shut down other programs first. It will take a while to load, but it’s worth the wait. I was able to view it with Safari 4 and 5.

Apple, Adobe, Flash, HTML5, audio, video

May 17, 2010

The whole feud between Apple and Adobe over Flash and HTML5 and development for mobile devices is like watching a couple you are friends with go though a break-up. It’s sad and you hope you won’t be asked to choose sides. This break-up has been long and drawn out. Yet I don’t see either  “winning” this fight. They both have tools that most designers are not going to do without. They are just making each other look bad.  (more…)
