Some outstanding work

I’ve been a bit bored with the internet. Too many of the same stories told in similar ways. So many look-a-like projects. Is everyone copying each other? I want the stories presented in original and better ways. Then I saw the following projects and the internet was exciting again.

Home and Away: Iraq and Afghanistan War Casualties
For  Memorial Day CNN puts faces and home towns to the U.S. and Coalition casualties from Iraq and Afghanistan. Amazing database visualization. More at: behind the scenes

Tracking the Oil Spill in the Gulf
Great graphics from the New York Times

Visualizing the BP Oil Spill Disaster
If the BP oil spill was in your backyard…

Prison Valley
A web documentary  about Cañon City, Colorado a town with 36,000 souls and 13 prisons, one of which is Supermax, the new ‘Alcatraz’ of America.

Mike Matas’ Photography Portfolio and User Interface Designs
Beautiful photography and videos plus I’m quite sure you have seen the design work by Mike Matas. You also might use his software.

Advanced Style
New York’s most stylish and creative older folks embrace life and have great stories to tell.

The Uniform Project
Sheena Matheiken worn one dress for one year as an exercise in sustainable fashion and raised $95126 to send 264 children living in Indian slums to school. Every day she reinvented the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments which are vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies.
